Step-by-Step: Intratunnel Phacofracture

This article outlines the surgical steps of intratunnel phacofracture, which is “a variation of Manual Small Incision Cataract Surgery (MSICS) that can reduce induced astigmatism.” In this nucleus management technique, “the lens nucleus is broken inside a sub−6-mm sclerocorneal tunnel and removed.” When performing intratunnel phacofracture, the steps involving nucleus removal “take place inside the corneoscleral tunnel,” whereas when performing other nucleotomy techniques, these steps take place inside the anterior chamber. Intratunnel phacofracture is a simple, inexpensive technique that is easy to reproduce.
