The SEE team welcomes Don Bell, who will be our new President and Chief Executive Officer!
In his over 25-year career in ophthalmology, Don has extensive leadership, strategic planning, and fiscal management experience. Don comes to SEE from the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, a 7,000-member professional association representing anterior segment ophthalmologists worldwide. We are thrilled to have such a highly experienced leader direct SEE’s efforts as we work toward our goal of ending preventable blindness!
Don brings to SEE thorough knowledge of ophthalmology, charitable eyecare, and physician education, as he took part in the launch of the ASCRS Foundation, where he also held a leadership role for 20 years. The ASCRS foundation provides humanitarian eyecare in Ethiopia through Robert Sinskey Eye Institute and works closely with all five of Ethiopia’s residency training institutions to help prepare that country’s next generation of surgeons. Through an active consortium of like-minded organizations, the ASCRS Foundation’s International Division helps facilitate partnerships and arrangements dedicated to improving global outreach and patient care in Africa, Asia, Latin America, and the Caribbean.
Closer to home, Don was instrumental in planning, developing, and launching Operation Sight, a U.S-based network of volunteer cataract surgeons, which over the past six years has delivered more than 7,000 free surgeries to American patients right in their own communities.
“I’m excited to join SEE at a time of renewed commitment by the ophthalmology community and its supporters to address preventable blindness worldwide, along with an expanded emphasis on collaboration and coordination among global eyecare organizations working to improve the lives of millions of underserved patients.”
