Double Your Impact for World Sight Day!

Every year, World Sight Day brings the global health community together to promote awareness of the blindness epidemic.

SEE International’s goal for World Sight Day 2020 is to increase awareness about the impact that sight-restoring eye care can have on a person’s life.

The International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB) highlights that there are an estimated 1.3 billion people who live with some form of vision impairment. However, 80% of these cases can be prevented or cured.

This year’s call to action is #HopeInSight, a perfect phrase to define our mission as we restore hope to thousands of individuals across the globe by giving the gift of sight.  We understand the effect blindness has on individuals, families, and communities as an underlying cause of poverty and hunger in developing countries. Therefore, we strive to provide access to sight-restoring care across the globe and right here at home.

In honor of World Sight Day, SEE International has launched a month-long campaign that began on October 1st and will last through October 31st. SEE’s Board of Directors has committed to matching all donations given through the month up to a total of $45,000. This generous commitment will allow you to DOUBLE YOUR IMPACT and make double the difference in the lives of those in need!

Every donation received by SEE, no matter the amount, helps break the cycle of hardship caused by blindness. We hope that you will join us in our efforts to provide individuals with #HopeInSight!

About World Sight Day

World Sight Day became an official IAPB event in the year 2000. Since then, SEE has taken the opportunity to highlight the fact that approximately 80% of blindness is avoidable (i.e. preventable and/or treatable). World Sight Day provides a platform for organizations to encourage governments, corporations, institutions and individuals to actively support global blindness prevention efforts.

This year, World Sight Day will be held on Thursday, October 8th. It is supported by over 150 IAPB member organizations. These include every major eye care NGO in the world, apex professional bodies for ophthalmology and optometry, teaching hospitals, and corporations. We are united in working together to eliminate avoidable blindness and visual impairment.
