Dr. Eric J. Poulsen is an ophthalmologist who is passionate about using the latest technologies and techniques to provide personalized care that truly impacts his patients’ lives. With extensive training at some of the top institutions in the country, he has developed a deep dedication to improving vision and enhancing his patients’ overall quality of life.
He earned his medical degree from the University of California, Davis, where he was honored with the UC Davis School of Medicine Medal for Highest Academic Achievement. His journey continued with a residency at Duke University Medical Center, where he refined his skills and grew his passion for ophthalmology. Along the way, Dr. Poulsen received numerous accolades, including the K. Alexander Dastgheib Award for Surgical Skill & Judgment, and was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society.
As a board-certified ophthalmologist, Dr. Poulsen is committed to the belief that good vision is vital to fully experiencing life. This philosophy shapes his practice, where he offers cutting-edge treatments and strives for excellence in every aspect of care. Whether performing delicate surgeries like LASIK and PRK or treating conditions such as cataracts, glaucoma, or diabetic eye problems, he utilizes the latest technology to deliver the best possible outcomes for each patient.

Outside of his practice, Dr. Poulsen helps train Central American surgeons at Hospital de la Familia in Nuevo Progreso, Guatemala. He is also an Assistant Clinical Professor at UCSF, where he shares his knowledge and expertise. Additionally, he is an active member of several respected professional organizations, including the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery.
