2024 Veterans Week

Supporting our veterans goes beyond gratitude—it’s about taking action to meet their needs. At SEE International, we are committed to honoring those who served our country through our annual SEE Vision Care (SVC) Veterans Week event, where we provide access to essential eyecare services through targeted outreach. Through this initiative, we ensure local veterans receive the vision services they need, helping them see a brighter future.

Meet Robert

Among those who received care during 2024 Veterans Week was 79-year-old Robert, a retired Navy veteran whose eye health is especially important due to his struggles with mobility issues that impede daily activities.

Robert was surprised and grateful when SEE followed up to schedule an appointment with him after his original screening: “When they called me to come down here, I said darn, nobody has ever been interested in my eyes like that before,” he said.

Meet Terry

“I need my eyes,” says Terry, a 65-year-old Army veteran and truck driver who relies on clear vision for his job. This past November, Terry also received care during Veterans Week outreach.

Describing his experience as “healthy” and “pleasant,” Terry reminded us how vital eyecare is for maintaining independence and thriving in daily life.

Meet Martha

Martha, a retired Army veteran, first connected with SEE International at the Veterans Stand Down event, where she learned about the free eyecare services available to veterans.

She later visited our clinic in Lompoc, eager to address her vision needs. During her visit, Martha shared her love for crime shows and movies and described her visit saying, “It was nice, it was just a very, very good experience.”

Meet Craig

Craig Griffith, 75, is a retired U.S. Air Force veteran who has been a SEE International patient since 2021. After monitoring his cataracts, SEE provided the support needed for Craig to undergo successful surgery at Sansum Clinic in 2023 with Dr. Toni Meyers.

Now, with clearer vision, he enjoys reading, writing, and teaching advanced English to students in China. Craig emphasizes the importance of sight, calling it “necessary for all functions in life.” We’re honored that Craig continues to seek eyecare services from SEE during Veterans Week!

We are honored to give back to veterans in our community through initiatives like this. With the support of our partners and donors, we’re making sure local veterans have access to the essential resources they need to thrive!
