Bishop Diego High School’s Human Geography class was first introduced to SEE at our symposium event “Seeing the Light.” We invited five students and their teacher, Mrs. Cortina, to learn about the blindness epidemic and hear stories from our volunteer doctors about their experiences. They went back to school and shared with their classmates what they learned.
After hearing about the sight-restoring work SEE does, they were eager to learn more. We invited the class to come to SEE headquarters for a tour. During the tour they were shown around the office and learned what each department’s role was. They were then taken to the warehouse, where all the magic happens, and learned about the medical supplies we send out to our programs all around the world. Students even had the chance to look under the microscope at a fake eyeball used for surgical training!
After leaving SEE headquarters the students felt inspired. They were so moved by what they saw and heard, they took it upon themselves to make a difference. The students decided to hold a bake sale to raise money to restore sight to people all around the world. By selling their baked goods, they were able to raise $308, which helped restore sight to 6 people.
