In-kind Giving

Each year, SEE International leverages millions of dollars worth of donated medical services and supplies to perform thousands of sight-restoring surgeries, including more than 14,000 in 2009.

SEE International is always looking for new in-kind partners both corporate and private.

Please review our current wish list below and contact our Development Department to discuss this type of donation.

Surgical Prep Pack
SEE International organizes all the resources necessary for a sight-restoring mission—the trained ophthalmologist, the host eye surgeon, support staff including nurses, and equipment and supplies.  Each cataract surgery requires a sterile surgical pack which includes syringes, needles, surgical gloves, towels, and drapes.
Cost: $5 per pack  (approximately $4,000 for month ’s supply)

Surgical Gloves
An essential component of any operating room are sterile surgical gloves for the surgeon. With every expedition, SEE International provides surgical gloves, in the exact size requested by the volunteer eye surgeon, in the supply kit.
Cost: $2,500 to underwrite a year's supply

Portable Autoclave
Although SEE International surgical teams work oftentimes in remote locations, we maintain the highest medical standards—particularly when it comes to keeping a sterile environment for cataract surgeries. Most SEE International host sites own autoclaves for sterilizing instruments between operations, but in some areas, SEE International provides a portable steam pressure autoclave. SEE International has found the Pelton-Crane autoclaves to be very durable, portable and easily repaired—ideal for clinics in developing countries.
Cost: $800 refurbished and $2,500 new

Pharmaceutical Supply Fund
Although SEE International is the recipient of generous in-kind donations of medical supplies and equipment, there are some medications that need to be purchased.
Cost: $5,500 to underwrite a year's supply

Medical Supply Shipments
SEE International is grateful for the corporate partners who donate in-kind medical supplies for expeditions, such as intraocular lenses and antibiotic eye drops. With each expedition, SEE coordinates all the medical supplies and equipment necessary for an eye clinic and ships it to the U.S.-based ophthalmologist. The traveling eye surgeon personally transports the supplies and equipment with them on their journey to the developing country. This system prevents hold-ups in customs and ensures supplies arrive in time for the scheduled eye clinic.
Cost: $20,000 to underwrite a year's worth of shipping supplies and equipment to volunteer surgeons
