Before You Go

You are about to go on a journey that will change the lives of your patients and positively affect entire communities. And you might be surprised at how it changes you too.

The need for trained and experienced eye surgeons in developing countries is enormous. Yet becoming a traveling SEE ophthalmologist requires more than surgical training. Our affiliates are philanthropic leaders who have a drive to create change and accomplish great things through their own efforts. SEE International supports their leadership through expedition planning, provisioning medical supplies, and maintaining the network of host and traveling ophthalmologists.

Pre-Clinic Packet

SEE International will provide each team member with a packet of information, expedition tips, packing lists and important documents. View a sample here.

Luggage

On most international flights, passengers are allowed to check two pieces of luggage. Before you fly, however, please check the latest regulations with your airline as the baggage allowance may vary. The traveling affiliate covers any excess baggage fees. For Packing tips, please visit www.onebag.com.

Passport and Visas

All traveling affiliates need a valid passport for their trips. Please note, however, that some countries enforce compliance with special passport expiration rules. If you do not have a passport, please allow sufficient processing time. Your local post office or county clerk office will have more information on obtaining or renewing your passport.

SEE International will advise you if you need a visa, and your International Clinic Coordinator can direct you to the appropriate resources to obtain your visa and review the current entry and exit requirements. You can also check the current travel requirements with the US Department of State.

Immunizations

Traveling affiliates are responsible for their immunizations. Please refer to the Center for Disease Control for updated information on inoculations or contact your local infectious disease specialist.
